Coal mining has been conducted in Zonguldak since the 19th century. This area is used as a mining training center today. The training center features an underground gallery stretching approximately one kilometer, where all mining units, except for the underground well, are visible.
In the museum complex—located very close to the city center—there is also a multipurpose event hall, an art exhibition hall, and a cafeteria where information about the museum is provided.
