Zeugma Mosaic Museum

The Zeugma Mosaic Museum, opened in 2011 on the former tobacco factory site, spans 30,000 square meters, with 25,000 covered. The museum complex has three buildings: Block A displays mosaics from Zeugma Ancient City, Block B houses mosaics from Eastern Roman period churches, and Block C contains administrative and conference areas. The collection includes 3,000 square meters of mosaics, frescoes, Roman fountains, statues, and architectural pieces from the Roman and Eastern Roman periods. The museum's mosaics are renowned for their intricate designs, subject matter, and advanced techniques, reflecting the architecture, flora, fauna, and lifestyle of their time. A highlight is the famous "Gypsy Girl" mosaic, depicting a serious-eyed woman believed to be a Meanad, follower of Dionysos. Portions of this mosaic, smuggled out in the 1960s, were successfully returned to Türkiye in 2018.
