Trojan War

According to Homer’s Iliad, King Priam learned from an oracle that his unborn child would cause the fall of Troy. He ordered a general to kill his newborn son, Paris, but the general could not bring himself to do it and left Paris on Mount Ida (Kaz Dağı). Raised by wild animals, Paris eventually became a shepherd. During a beauty contest between the goddesses Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, Zeus, wishing to remain neutral, assigned the task of judging to Paris, the Trojan prince. On Mount Ida (Kaz Dağı), in the world's first beauty contest, each goddess offered Paris a reward. Aphrodite promised him the most beautiful woman in the world, Queen Helen of Sparta, and thus won the contest. Later, when Paris visited Sparta, he met Helen and, fulfilling Aphrodite's promise, took her back to Troy. This act offended King Menelaus, and his brother, King Agamemnon of the Achaeans, used it as a pretext to start the war. After approximately 10 years, the Achaeans infiltrated Troy through the wooden horse tactic, seized the city, and destroyed it.
