St. Nicholas Monastery of Kıyıköy
Embark on a Sacred Journey at Kıyıköy's Aya Nikola Manastırı
The St. Nicholas Monastery of Kıyıköy is located on the southern slope of Papuçdere Road, just 700 meters from the town of Kıyıköy. It is one of the best examples of rock monasteries from the Eastern Roman period. The monastery features a church on the ground floor, a holy spring (ayazma) below, and sections designated for monks in the upper part. There are tiered cells carved into the rock. Access to the holy spring is via a staircase on the northern side. Additionally, there is a second entrance on the eastern side of the church. In the 19th century, the front of the rock galleries was completed with a wooden entrance by the Greek inhabitants of Anatolia, although this section was later removed.
