Taurus Mountains's image
The Toros Mountains (Toros Dağları) are the Anatolian extensions of the Alps, which traverse many countries of Europe. In Türkiye, the Toros Mountains start from the west of Antalya, parallel to the Mediterranean coast, from the Teke Peninsula, cross all Antalya parallel to the sea, then continue by entering the Syrian borders. Toros Mountains are divided into three parts: Western Toros Mountains, Central Toros Mountains and Southeastern Toros Mountains. The Western Toros Mountains start from the Teke Peninsula and extend to the border of Antalya and Mersin. In other words, Antalya is the home to most of the Western Toros Mountains. The Western Toros Mountains are also divided into parts. The westernmost Akdağlar and the Bey Mountains (Akdağlar ve Bey Dağları) and Geyik Mountains (Geyik Dağları), which are located a little further east, including Kemer, and which also includes the Tahtalı Mountain are also in Antalya. Throughout history, these mountain ranges have been determinant in dozens of vital points, from the climate of the region to the lifestyle of the people of the region, from the culture of the region to the regional cuisine and transportation.
