Milas
Milas is a city of history and culture with at least 5.000 years of history. It was the most important city of the Carian Civilization, which ruled in the southwest of Anatolia in ancient times. Mylasa, as it was called in ancient times, was established in the west of this mountainous country, at the foot of Sodra Mountain. Carian, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Menteşe and Ottoman civilizations ruled in Milas. Today, there are countless heritage from these civilizations in and around Milas. The only feature of Milas, which hosts 27 ancient cities, is not its historical attractiveness. The natural richness of Milas is behind the fact that it has not hosted so many cities in history. There are two lakes within the borders of Milas. One is Bafa and the other is Tuzla. The importance of olive, which has a great share in the local economy, is seen in Milas food culture. Among the olive varieties in the region, olives with oil, pickled olives, pickled and pressed olives have an important place as table olives. Known as the “golden liquid”, olive oil is very important in the economy of Milas.
