Midyat

Midyat, one of Türkiye's sites on the UNESCO World Heritage Temporary List and bearing traces of the Middle Ages, is 67 km from Mardin. It is ready to take its visitors on a journey to the past with its stone mansions, churches, monasteries and bazaars. Midyat, whose history dates back to the Assyrians, is an important center for Assyrians. It is considered the center of the Tur Abdin region and hosts the Assyrian Metropolitanate. Muslims, Christians and Yazidis have been living in the district, which has become a symbol of peace and tolerance, for centuries. Midyat Guest House, one of the landmarks of Midyat, has hosted many Turkish TV series. The view of Midyat from the terrace of this 3-storey stone mansion is worth seeing. In the historical bazaars of Midyat, it is still possible to find Filigree embroidery, Assyrian wine, and Midyat work embroidered on chintz, made by Assyrian masters. Estel, with its winding streets and old stone houses, is a Muslim settlement that was later merged with Midyat. The Grand Mosque, built by Cevat Pasha in 1925, and the Estel Inn and Gelüşke Inn, where local items are exhibited, are among the places worth seeing.
