Mevlana Museum

The most famous structure in Konya is the striking green-tiled tomb of Rûmî. Attached to the mausoleum is a former dervish seminary housing copies of Rûmî’s writings and artifacts related to the sect’s philosophy. Visitors enter the marble-paved courtyard through the ‘Dervişan Kapısı.’ To the right are the dervishes’ kitchen ‘Matbah’ and the Hürrem Pasha mausoleum, built during Süleyman the Magnificent’s reign. On the left, the row of 17 dervish cells topped with a small dome was constructed under Murad III. Rûmî’s tomb is located within the museum. The Tilavet Chamber is where Quran readings and chanting occur, leading to Rûmî’s sarcophagus through a silver door. The mausoleum’s entry features an Ottoman silver door inscribed with: ‘Those who enter here incomplete will come out perfect.’ The intricately carved wooden container contrasts beautifully with the warm light of the lamps, serving as a tribute to the Sufi saint, whose timeless poetry conveys messages of love and peace.
