SKELETON EKLENECEK
Letoon Archaeological Site
According to a legend from Ovidius, the Goddess Leto gave birth to twins Artemis and Apollo in Delos and later transformed locals into frogs when they prevented her from bathing her children at a spring near the Temple of Leto. The Letoon ruins were built on this mythological foundation. Excavations at the site suggest that Letoon was established in the 7th century BCE and served as a political and religious center during the Lycian union period. The city center features three temples consecrated to Leto, Artemis, and Apollo, with the Temple of Apollo housing the famous Apollo Mosaic now displayed in the Fethiye Museum. The discovery of the 'Trilingual Inscription' near the Temple of Apollo, written in Lycian, Aramaic, and Greek, helped in deciphering the Lycian language. Other notable ruins at Letoon include a fountain building dedicated to Nymphe, an Early Christian church, a stoa, and a Hellenistic theater
