Kültepe Archaeological Site
The Kültepe archaeological site, located near Kayseri at the base of Mount Erciyes, played a pivotal role in trade and cultural exchange between Anatolia, Syria, and Mesopotamia. During the second millennium BCE, it was the center of the Kanish Kingdom and the chief city of the Assyrian Trade Colonies system, known then as Kanish or Neşa. The name Kültepe has been used since 1871 when cuneiform documents called 'Cappadocian tablets' surfaced in museums. Since 1948, Kültepe has become a significant archaeological center, with tens of thousands of artifacts discovered.
