Karatay Madrasa Tile Works Museum

Karatay Madrasa, commissioned in 1251 by Emir Celaleddin Karatay during the reign of II. İzzettin Keykavus, is an architectural gem whose designer remains unknown. Though utilized during the Ottoman era, it fell into abandonment by the late 19th century. In 1955, it was repurposed as the 'Tile Artefacts Museum.' Visitors are welcomed by a courtyard adorned with mosaic tiles. The walls are inscribed with verses, including the Basmala and Ayat-el Kursi, and the names of various prophets and caliphs are featured on the decorative gateways, symbolizing the strong cultural and religious influences of the time. The museum showcases a collection of tile artifacts, glass plates, and other historical pieces from the Anadolu Selcuklu, Kubad-Abad Palace excavation, and Seljuk and Ottoman periods in Konya and its vicinity.
