Kadınana Tombs

There are two tombs in Afyon that belong to the three daughters of the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat III—Asiye, Melek Peyker, and Naime Gevher Hanım—who settled in Afyon and served the local people. The first tomb, dedicated to Asiye Hatun, is a square structure with a single dome that underwent restoration in 1940. Its arched entrance faces east, and there is a single sarcophagus inside. Located on Kadınana Street, Asiye Hatun, who lies in this tomb, commissioned the construction of numerous graves for the public. Melek Peyker, who rests in the nearby tomb with a gabled roof and masonry construction near the Mevlevi (Tomb) Mosque, contributed her knowledge and resources to bring open water channels to the city. Naime Gevher, on the other hand, devoted her expertise and financial resources to the construction of city canals and bridges.
