Unearth Millennia of History, Discover İzmir's Soul

The Izmir Archaeological Museum was first established in 1927 and was initially housed in different locations due to its growing collection of artifacts. It was moved to the National Education Pavilion in 1951, and then to its current building in Bahribaba Park in Konak in 1984 to accommodate the increasing number of artifacts from nearby ancient cities. The museum has a Stone Artifacts Hall with marble statues and busts from the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The top floor is the Ekrem Akurgal Ceramic Artifacts Hall, where artifacts from the Prehistoric period to the Eastern Roman times are exhibited. Important pieces include the 'Bronze Running Athlete' and 'Bronze Demeter' statues. Coins, ornaments, and glassware from various periods are exhibited in the Treasury Room, while sarcophagi, steles, and architectural elements are displayed in the garden.
