İstanbul Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam
The Naval Museum, established in 1897 under the name of "The Museum and Library Administration Office" in the Imperial Dockyard with permission from Sultan Abdülhamit II, is the largest museum of its kind in Türkiye and ranks among the leading maritime museums worldwide due to its extensive collection. Over the years, the museum relocated to various buildings until settling in Beşiktaş in 1961, where it became known as the Naval Museum and Archive Directorate. In 1971, the museum opened the "Gallery of Historical Caiques," featuring its collection of historical boats, including galleys and imperial caiques. The museum’s vast collection includes hundreds of years-old Ottoman wooden rowboats, caiques, ship models, figureheads, paintings, wood carvings, seals, and other maritime-related artifacts. These items offer a comprehensive view of maritime history and craftsmanship.
