Great Palace Mosaics Museum
The mosaics displayed at the Great Palace Mosaics Museum, dating back to 450-550 CE, are renowned for their artistic brilliance and intricate depictions of daily life, nature, and mythology. Found in the northeastern section of the Eastern Roman Great Palace's porticoed courtyard, these mosaics cover 180 square meters and feature 150 human and animal figures across 90 different themes. Notable scenes include a griffin eating a lizard, a man milking a goat, and a hunter fighting a tiger. The mosaics are made from limestone, terracotta, and colored stones, with tesserae arranged in intricate patterns. The museum is located in the Arasta Bazaar, near the Blue Mosque, a 17th-century architectural marvel adorned with striking İznik tiles.
