Göynük

As a place where traditional values are preserved, Göynük is a typical Ottoman town situated in valleys and at the base and slopes of high hills. Its strategic location between Anatolia and Istanbul, along with the saffron trade, facilitated Göynük's economic development. Göynük is home to historical structures, the oldest of which dates back around 700 years, including houses, workplaces, baths, tombs, and a cemetery, as well as historical plane trees. Many of these buildings are still used for their original purposes. In Göynük, you can witness significant examples of Turkish life and the settlement culture of Anatolia. These houses, reflecting the traditional Turkish civil architecture of the early 20th century, typically feature hipped roofs covered with locally produced tiles. They are usually one or two stories high, with a ground floor and interior stairs. In front of the houses, there are also courtyards, known as hayat. The ceilings of some living rooms are adorned with various decorative motifs.
