Kartepe ist ein Stadtteil von Kocaeli. Es liegt am höchsten Teil des Samanlı-Gebirges (Samanlı Dağları); daher hat es einen herrlichen Blick auf die Bucht von İzmit (İzmit Körfezi) und den Sapanca-See (Sapanca Gölü). In Kartepe, einem großartigen Ort für Skifahrer, beginnt die Saison normalerweise Ende Dezember.
