Çeşme Castle, originally built by Genoese traders in the 15th century and later expanded by Sultan Beyazıt II in 1508, is a significant historical structure in western Anatolia. Once abandoned, it was reopened as a museum in 1965 and now houses archaeological finds from the Bronze Age Bağlararası settlement and the ancient city of Erythrai. Visitors can explore amphoras recovered from the sea and learn about the 1770 Ottoman-Russian naval war. Erythrai, located nearby, was known for its red soil and millstone production, while Bağlararası uncovered Anatolia's oldest winery. Several parts of the castle are currently closed due to ongoing restoration.
Çeşme Castle and Museum is a striking fortress that has stood guard over the town for centuries. Built in the 16th century, the castle is a symbol of the military and maritime history of the region. Today, the castle has been carefully restored and is home to the Çeşme Archaeological Museum, which displays artifacts relating to the history of Çeşme and its surrounding area. Visitors can explore the castle’s towers, walls, and courtyards, while learning about the battles and events that shaped the area.
