Assos Archaeological Site, established in the 6th century BCE and included in Türkiye's UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, is built on a volcanic hill and constructed using durable andesite stone. Known for its unique sarcophagi, which could rapidly decompose bodies, Assos exported these "man-eating sarcophagi" across Anatolia. The city was also home to the philosopher Aristotle, who established a school of philosophy here.
