Beylerbeyi Palace

Discover the rich historical fabric of Türkiye at the impressive Beylerbeyi Palace, located at the foothills of Kars Castle. Commissioned in 1579 by Lala Mustafa Pasha, this two-story structure built from finely-cut basalt stone and rubble stands as a unique architectural testament to the Ottoman influence in the region. Unlike other palaces, Beylerbeyi Palace features rounded arches for its windows, enhancing its distinct design. The palace's main entrance faces west, and although the original wooden ceiling that once separated the ground floor from the first floor has not survived, the structure still radiates a historical aura. During the Ottoman-Russian War of 1828, a significant part of the palace was destroyed, leading to its abandonment after extensive damage. Fortunately, restoration efforts were completed by the end of 2019, reviving Beylerbeyi Palace as a site worth visiting. Today, this historic site invites visitors to explore its corridors and immerse themselves in the spirit of the past that lingers within its walls.
