Belkıs Zeugma Archaeological Site
Zeugma, founded by Seleukos I, was a key city in the eastern Roman Empire, thriving in the 2nd century CE as a military and trade hub. It housed high-ranking officers and the headquarters of the Roman army's 4th legion. One of its most unique artifacts is the Statue of Mars, the Roman God of War, discovered in 2000 at the Poseidon Villa. The city is famed for its intricate mosaics, which reflect the lives of the Roman elite. Excavations continue to uncover significant structures like villas, a theater, and a temple in the unflooded parts of the city.
