Aziziye Mosque

The structure, built of cut stone, is one of the finest examples of late Ottoman architecture. It is located in the city center. Previously known as the site of the Bezirgânlar Inn, this place once housed a mosque called the Yüksek Mosque, built by Musâhib Mustafa Pasha (d. 1685), husband of Hatice Sultan, one of the daughters of Sultan Mehmed IV. The mosque originally included shops below it. After the mosque burned down in 1867-68, it was rebuilt in 1872 using foundation revenues, with significant financial support from Sultan Abdülaziz and his mother, Pertevniyal Valide Sultan. Constructed in the Turkish Baroque style, the mosque features windows that are larger than its doors.
