Amasya Museum
The Amasya Museum, established in 1928, was initially located in the Sultan Bâyezid II Complex before moving to the 13th-century Gökmedrese Mosque in 1962. It officially became a museum in 1958 and was relocated to its current building in 1977, opening to the public in 1980. The museum houses archaeological and ethnographic artifacts from multiple cultures, including coins, manuscripts, and mummies. One notable exhibit is the Teshub figurine, discovered in 1962 in the ancient city of Hakmiş. This bronze figurine, representing the Hittite storm god Teshub, reflects the artistic and religious significance of the region during the Hittite era. The figure’s intricate features, such as its tapered hat and likely lapis lazuli-adorned eyes, make it an important piece in archaeological studies.
