Amasya Clock Tower

Timeless Beauty, Ageless History: Meet Amasya Saat Kulesi!

Amasya Clock Tower

Clock towers hold a distinct place in Anatolian Turkish architecture with their unique functional and architectural characteristics. Besides indicating the time, they served additional purposes, such as fire and surveillance duties, and facilitated the shift in official institutions from the prayer-based (ezani) time to solar time. The Amasya Clock Tower, built in 1865 by Amasya’s Mutasarrıf and Poet Ziya Pasha, is located west of the Government Bridge in the center of Amasya. This stone structure, bearing traces of Ottoman heritage, is a cultural gem closely woven into local life. With its scenic backdrop of Mount Harşena and the Yeşilırmak River, it offers a captivating journey into Türkiye’s rich history.
